Newspapers and politics
It's truly a shame I can't vote in other people's elections. I feel like I know more about the Foley scandal than I do about local problems, for example. There isn't any newspaper, except the Daily Cal. It's a weak paper because it covers sports more than anything, and I don't really know what's going on anywhere else. I think it's because this is an insulated environment, the I-House (my dorm) doesn't have a newspaper and it itself is a community of 600+ students, plus its workers. There may be some localities (the building I live in that affect me more than other localities (the city of Berkeley). But it is important to maintain a political connection to the outside world. Perhaps that is why I need to start a newspaper. And perhaps I need to start paying attention to local issues and laws. The Daily Kos has really helped me get started in that regard.
